Are you AWARE?
Well seeing as how the whole of Singapore seems to be into this topic, I thought it be nice if I give my own opinion on this matter.
Well let's start with the purpose of AWARE shall we? AWARE is an organization that is suppose to protect the rights of women(there had better be no one asking me about the lefts...I will kill you). Well in that sense it's more of a charity organization as it is not run by the government but as a private company.
Well according to the reports, the last management of the company was pro-homosexual and that was the basis in which the current management used to take over the organization. The current management is apparently right-wing Christians who believe that homosexuality is wrong and that it should never be allowed. The right-wing Christians have already admitted to plotting a coup that was used to take over AWARE. Their base of argument is this : Homosexuality is wrong and we are here to ensure that this organization is not used as a base for the spreading of homosexuality which is wrong as you will not be a whole woman. Now let's have a look at what I wrote in the first paragraph shall we? This is what I wrote : AWARE is an organization that is suppose to protect the rights of women. Now where in that sentence does it say we promote lesbianism and we aim to protect their rights? AWARE was set up to protect all women, lesbian or not. I mean what? Just because your lesbian does it mean that you're not a women? Let's look at the dictionary meaning of lesbian: woman who is sexually attracted to other women(courtesy of oxford dictionary). Now let's see the first word shall we: woman... So is a les not a woman? Well oxford does not seem to think so and so do I.
So now that we got that straightened out, let's go back to the big picture. The whole point of a charity or a rights organization being set up is to uphold the ideals of women rights. So what are the new leaders trying to say? That they believe in it so much that they have to take it over through underhanded means even if it means problems? Well if that was the case, then what they did had no link to what they said cause if they want to uphold the ideals of women rights, they had jolly well not outlaw homosexuality just because it ain't Christian-like.
Okay so now we hit the main inferred issue here. Have you noticed that it is a Christian group that plotted a coup and not any other religion? Well, I won't say anything that would cause problems but this is what I think. Firstly, other religions are more tolerant towards homosexuality compared to Christianity. Many denominations of Christianity do not approve of homosexuality. That is why they feared that AWARE would go pro-homo and that could cause them problems. Secondly, the other religions aren't to bothered. I belive that in our society, most of us Singaporeans are 'bo chap' and we don't really care who or what is in power. As long as got somewhere to complain and make suggestion can already. That's is what most of us here would say and that is most likely what the other religions are saying. Or it could mean that the other religions just don't want trouble. Well either way that brings us this question: why did the Christians even bother to speak up against this?
The answer in simple, they can't accept homosexuality and can't bear to see AWARE being used as a spreading ground a.k.a they want homosexuality out. Now seeing as we are in this debate on whether homosexuality is acceptable, let me have this input. Now for all those Christians out there, don't get mad at me. This is just my own belief. Firstly, everything on this earth is created by god and placed here for a reason which means homosexuality is also god's creation. So what right do we have to say that it is wrong in god's eyes? Secondly, god gave men free will to choose. If we have someone at the top telling us what is wrong and what is right, then where in the world is the free will god gave us? He gave us the will to choose so why the heck do we have some retard at the top telling us 'oh homosexuality is wrong and I'm here to set things straight'. HELLO! This is the 21st century, even if YOU don't like it does not mean everyone does. Just respect the person's choice and let him be. He chose it on free will and so it's his or her problem not yours.
So after all this being said, I still ask, why did you take over AWARE? Is it really to ensure that AWARE is not used as a base for spreading homosexuality? Or are you just after power? Cause if you really want to ensure that AWARE is not used as a base for spreading homosexuality, then we had better see that you do not start making policies that outlaw or discriminate against homosexuality or then the whole point of AWARE being a women right organization will be useless and all we will know is that AWARE is anti-homo.
